Through multiple Free Trade Agreements that Korea has made with the EU, America, Australia, and many other countries, foreign wine has (thankfully) become much more prevalent and readily available here over the past few years. Naturally, this has led to some quality wine bars setting up shop in Seoul ranging from venues that offer an authentic French experience to well, one that has some of the best bar food in Asia. If you’re looking for a wine bar in Seoul that will delight your senses, particularly your taste buds, Jungsik Bar has you covered. Caviar & Brioche Wine Pairing Jungsik Bar is the newest project of Executive Chef Jungsik Yim, owner of 2-Michelin star Jungsik New York and the only restaurant in Korea to make the ‘Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2015’ list at number 10, Jungsik Seoul. Located on the first floor of this ultra-modern three story restaurant building in Apgujeong, the wine bar’s interior is fittingly equipped with an outdoor terrace, contemporary lighting accents, concrete elements, and minimalist decor. The classy low-key ambiance here makes it very suitable for business meetings, romantic dates, or quiet laid-back evenings. Mr. Yim launched Jungsik Bar as a means to provide a space for food dishes and wine to harmonize together, much like how makgeolli goes so well with jeon or how fried chicken goes hand in hand with beer. The difference here being that Jungsik Bar’s Spanish themed (with a Korean flair) bar food is prepared in the highest standards by the same chefs responsible for creating top ten cuisine in Asia. As the sommelier’s role is on par with that of the executive chef in the wine and food pairing, this harmony wouldn’t be complete without the best sommelier of Korea filling the role of head sommelier as well. This is undoubtedly the x-factor that sets Jungsik Bar apart from any other wine bar in Seoul. Additionally, Jungsik Seoul can be fully booked for more than a month in advance, making Jungsik Bar a great way to taste some of Chef Jungsik’s creations without the wait. Instant gratification at its best! As with any high-end wine bar in Seoul, Jungsik Bar boasts an extensive wine-by-the-glass list selected to pair well with the menu which is constantly updated. Mr. Yim’s mission for his bar is to set a new standard for every wine bar in Seoul through the pairing process and also to introduce a diverse selection of lesser-known fine wines which are often highly commended. His trained sommeliers are prepared to accommodate those unexperienced with wine, recommending easy-to-drink varieties, while for wine enthusiasts or connoisseurs they suggest new and unique types of wine. Guests can choose from 24 types of wines in either 30, 75, or 150 ml sizes and a variety of Spanish and Korean dishes are available in regular, small, or bite sizes for a delectable pairing of flavors to match your appetite.
